Hello my name is Jim .........
Hello! Welcome! This website thing is all new to me, so bear with me as I work on it.
Here are a few things about me. I came along just a couple of years before the "Baby Boomer" era began. I was born in an army camp in Medford, Oregon, but my mother moved back to Kansas when I was just a couple of months old. Dad was in the army and was headed overseas. I grew up in Southeast Kansas.
As I was growing up, along came 50's and 60's rock 'n' roll and Elvis. I think I first heard him on the radio in '54 or '55. The more I listened to the 'oldies' and Elvis, the more I wanted to try and sing like him. I've been listening and singing along to all of those songs ever since. I am now 64 and I still sing along with them. I've never been able to sing in front of people, so several years ago, when karaoke machines started to hit the market, I bought one and played around with it for a while. I continued to buy tapes to sing along with and then I finally decided to record some songs and let people hear them. They turned out ok. Everyone seemed to think I was doing pretty good on them.
In November of '07, I ran across SingSnap.com, an online karaoke site, and have since become addicted to it. It has given me the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people from around the world and hear so many great singers. It's amazing. As of right now, I've done over 1000 songs......whew, doesn't seem possible. If you visit SingSnap, my name on there is JiminKansas. I would like to thank each and every one of you that visit and listen to my songs and all of the nice comments that you leave.
I retired, after 32 years with the federal government, in December 1997. My wife and I live in Kansas, near Kansas City. One of my favorite hobbies is bass fishing. I don't remember the first time my dad took me, but I was very young. I'm so glad he introduced me to it. He and I fished together countless times over the years. He's gone now, but I still recall many trips we made together and I treasure each one.
Also, I've always been interested in classic cars. Of course, what's considered a classic now, was new back when I was growing up. I learned to drive in my dad's 1956 Chevy Bel-Air. I think though, my favorite car he owned, was a beautiful red and white '63 Impala Super Sport with red bucket seats. Now, when your dad goes out and buys a car like that and gives you the keys and lets you drive in on dates, well, you feel like you've died and gone to heaven. Yes, I was allowed to take it on dates and the console did cause some problems, but those problems were overcome. Still, my favorite Chevy is a '55. I've had 2 of them. In 1987, while I had a black '55, I entered a local radio contest to try and win a 1962 Corvette. Well, lo and behold, I ended up winning it. Unfortunately, I had to sell my '55. I kept the Corvette for several years, but eventually, after having my fun with it and going to cruises around town, I sold it. So, as of now, I don't have any classics.
Well, as I think of more things, I will continue to add them to my site. I appreciate you taking the time to come and visit.
Take care........Jim
